Lecture 2: Moment Distribution Method: Basics and concepts

Member stiffness factor:

The moment required to rotate the near end of a prismatic beam through a unit
angle without translation the far end being fixed is called stiffness factor.
















Carryover factor:

In moment distribution the moment produced at the far end by rotation of the near 
end of a beam is called the carry-over factor.





Carry-over factor is always one half for straight prismatic beams.











































Distribution factor: If a moment M is applied to a fixed connected joint. The connecting member will supply a point of resisting moment necessary to satisfy moment equation at the joint. The fraction of the total resisting moment supply the member is called Distribution Factor. (D.F)
